Come along with us on a walk in English. Discover the histories that have shaped Stockholm’s oldest quarter, from the Middle Ages to today.
Take part in a guided walking tour of Gamla stan (Stockholm’s Old Town) that explore the city’s historic heart from a new perspective. We trace the history of Gamla stan and its inhabitants from its Medieval origins up to the modern day.
For at least 800 years, people have lived, died and met their fate on this small collection of islands. Gamla stan has been transformed again and again through the centuries, and yet traces of the city’s earliest history can still be found. Great fires, royalty and ordinary folk have all left their mark. Their stories still echo amongst the buildings today and many more lie hidden under the streets and behind the facades.
Together we uncover bustling harbours and squares, winding streets, and bygone times. We stop to hear about love, slaughter, philosophy, global connections, climatic shifts and the emergence of radical, new ideas.
