Step Back in Time with Tim

Date: April

Time:

Location: Gamla stan (Old Town)

Price: 75 SEK

Meet our special guest from Germany and experience Stockholm’s medieval past through his eyes — in English!

Tim Tönsing, a scholar from Rostock University, has spent early 2025 at the Medieval Museum. His time with us has perfectly complemented his academic focus on history, particularly the Middle Ages — and, of course, Stockholm.

While here, Tim has explored our guided walking tours of Gamla Stan. Inspired by them, he has created his own unique take on Stockholm’s history.

I want to invite both Stockholmers and visitors to see the city through a foreigner’s perspective. Some things that locals take for granted might not be common knowledge to outsiders.

So come along and uncover hidden historical gems and stories!

During this tour of Old Town, we’ll discover the people who built and shaped the city. Wander through narrow medieval streets, explore hidden corners where the past still lingers, and step inside two surviving buildings from the Middle Ages.

Along the way, you’ll hear tales of everyday life, miracles, power struggles, and why Stockholm was founded right here in the first place. Follow along and see the invisible medieval Stockholm unfold before your eyes!
