Draymen’s House

Discover Sweden’s only guild house that has been preserved unchanged at its original location.

Step into the 16th-century building at Stora Hoparegränd, where porters, so called Draymen, maintained a hostel from 1818 to 1930, now preserved as a museum.

The Draymen were licensed to transport wine barrels from the harbor. They were the last guild in Sweden, existing from medieval times all the way until 1930. A guild organized craftsmen from the same trade.

In the guild house, you can see the Draymen’s tools, hear about how they worked from dawn till dusk, and learn how the conditions for their profession changed over time.
